Ita FortIta fort situated in the heart of the city, is one of the popular tourist spots in Itanagar. The name Itanagar is named after this famous fort. It is one of the most important monuments of the region. The famous Ita Fort was built by the Ahom Kings between the 14th -15th century. Literally the name of the Fort means fort of bricks. In Ahom dialect Ita means brick.
The Ita fort covers an area of 45 cubic meters and is irregular in shape. The Fort was constructed using around 80 lakh bricks. The volume of the Fort is 16,200 cubic meter. The fort has three different entrances namely eastern, western and southern entrances to the fort. Ita fort is one of the major tourist destination of Itanagar. The ruins of the fort are the prime attractions of the fort. Tourists visiting the fort can have a glimpse of the magnificent architectural style of the Ahom Kings who built the fort.
Ganga LakeThe Ganga Lake situated 6km from the capital is a natural lake. The Ganga lake is situated at the foothills of the Himalayan range. The Ganga Lake or Gyaker Sinyi is blessed with lush greenery and mountain. It is a perfect tourist spot. The tourist can also enjoy boating in this lake. From the hill top the tourists can have view of the beautiful lake abundant in scenic beauty. The area of the lake is 4 sq km. Transportation in ItanagarItanagar is is connected to all the important cities of the northeast through roadways and airways. Itanagar does not have an airport of its own. Tezpur airport in Assam is the nearest airport. Itanagar also does not have its own railway station. The nearest rail head is at Harmuti in Assam. Itanagar is very well connected by road.
